The photovoltaic integration developed at the NESR Oilfield Research and Innovation Center, located in Dhahran Techno Valley (Saudi Arabia), represents a key advancement in the incorporation of sustainable energy solutions into contemporary architecture.
The system designed and developed by Onyx Solar Energy consists of photovoltaic glass units with argon-filled insulating chambers, providing a high level of thermal insulation and improving the building’s energy efficiency, while perfectly adapting to the country’s demanding climatic conditions. In addition to generating clean energy, this solution contributes to indoor comfort by stabilizing temperature and optimizing the overall thermal performance of the building.
The photovoltaic skylight achieves an estimated annual production of 135,000 kWh, while also enhancing indoor environmental quality thanks to its ability to filter ultraviolet and infrared radiation while allowing natural light to pass through.
Its curved and complex design required the manufacturing of more than 200 different glass typologies, tailored to the architectural requirements of the project. The installation is complemented by a photovoltaic carport that provides shade for vehicles and generates around 70,000 kWh per year, reinforcing the project’s commitment to sustainability and the energy efficiency of the complex.
The photovoltaic modules are laminated with EVALAM UC, a high-performance EVA encapsulant designed for photovoltaic modules, providing structural support, electrical insulation, and high transparency. Its thermal stability reduces shrinkage during lamination, optimizing the manufacturing process and lowering costs.
It offers excellent adhesion and light transmission, improving module performance. Its formulation facilitates air evacuation, minimizes bubbles, and reduces production rejects. In addition, it provides high photo-thermal stability, preventing discoloration and ensuring long-term durability.
Suitable for standard and BIPV applications, EVALAM UC is an efficient and reliable solution for high-performance photovoltaic systems.
